The Cruiser Mk VIII (Centaur IV)also known as Centaur was a cruiser tank used by the british between 1944 and 1945. The vehicle was manned by a crew of 5 and was 2.92 metres wide, 6.4 metres long, 2.49 metres high and weighed 27.5 tonnes. Powered by a 395hp petrol engine the Cruiser Mk VIII (Centaur IV) was capable of a road speed of 27mph and a cross country speed of 14mph. The Cruiser Mk VIII (Centaur IV) had a road range of 165 miles Based on the centaur chassis, the vehicle was armed with 1 light machine gun, a Ordnance Q.F. 95mm Howitzer with a muzzle velocity of 503m/sec which was capable of penetrating 84mm of armour at 800metres
