The Char S-35 (Somua) was a medium tank , 900 of which were used by the french between 1935 and 1945. The vehicle was manned by a crew of 3 and was 2.14 metres wide, 5.33 metres long, 2.64 metres high and weighed 20 tonnes. Powered by a 190hp petrol engine the Char S-35 (Somua) was capable of a road speed of 25mph and a cross country speed of 14mph. The Char S-35 (Somua) had a road range of 160 miles Based on the medium tank chassis, the vehicle was armed with 1 light machine gun, a C.L. de 47 antichar SA-L mle1937 L/53 with a muzzle velocity of 855m/sec which was capable of penetrating 61mm of armour at 800metres
